Language Requirements to study in Latvia for Students:

In order to be admitted in English-medium courses, the candidates must demonstrate their proficiency in the English language, which can be done either through the IELTS examination or the TOEFL examination. Minimum IELTS grade is 6.5 band.

Permanent Residence of Latvia

Non-EU or third country nationals can become permanent residents of Latvia after 5 years of residence in the country. During the 5 years of residence, the individuals have to hold temporary resident permits. The route to permanent residence for foreign students consists of work permit. Upon successful completion of the degree from the University of Latvia, the students must return to their home countries. Fresh graduates can look for employment in Latvia during the last semester of their study programmes or online. After obtaining an appropriate employment contract from the Latvian company or firm, the employer who intends to hire third country nationals at the company will apply for permission from the Office of citizenship and migration affairs. After obtaining permission, the office of migration affairs will issue invitation letter from the employer to the third country national. The third country national who has been hired in the company will submit the invitation letter, employment contract and other documents to the Latvian embassy at home country and obtain work permit of the Republic of Latvia. For Admission in Post Graduate (PhD) Programmes:

Receiving Acceptance Letter

Once you receive the necessary documents, your selected university will send them to the AIC for approval. During this time, you will get an entrance examination and a Skype interview. If your university is approved, you will receive an acceptance letter and a study contract. You will also receive an invoice for your tuition fee and an invoice for your security deposit. You will receive 500-700 Euro from the university as security. Once you have paid your tuition fee, you will be able to apply for your student visa.
