Language Requirements to study in Latvia for Students:

In order to be admitted in English-medium courses, the candidates must demonstrate their proficiency in the English language, which can be done either through the IELTS examination or the TOEFL examination. Minimum IELTS grade is 6.5 band.

Permanent Residence of Latvia

Non-EU or third country nationals can become permanent residents of Latvia after 5 years of residence in the country. During the 5 years of residence, the individuals have to hold temporary resident permits. The route to permanent residence for foreign students consists of work permit. Upon successful completion of the degree from the University of Latvia, the students must return to their home countries. Fresh graduates can look for employment in Latvia during the last semester of their study programmes or online. Foreign students pursuing a full-time study program in Latvia are permitted to work 20 hours per week during the course of their semester and 40 hours per week during their semester breaks. A bachelors of art or bachelors of general science (2 years duration) is not accepted. Entrance examination: universities in Latvia take an entrance examination from foreign students before admission. The examination will be prepared according to your choice of study programme. Sky interview: Your Skype interview and your entrance examination result must be satisfactory. A faculty member of the university associated with your study program will conduct your interview. For Admission in Post Graduate (PhD) Programmes:

Acquiring a Bachelor of Arts degree (4 year duration) or a Master of Arts degree (2 year duration) from a recognised institution of your country with a minimum grade of 60% or higher. Research proposal and Skype interview will be required.

Receiving Acceptance Letter

Once you receive the necessary documents, your selected university will send them to the AIC for approval. During this time, you will get an entrance examination and a Skype interview. If your university is approved, you will receive an acceptance letter and a study contract. You will also receive an invoice for your tuition fee and an invoice for your security deposit. You will receive 500-700 Euro from the university as security. Once you have paid your tuition fee, you will be able to apply for your student visa. Step 7 After making fees payment the university will provide the acceptance letter, AIC letter, accommodation letter and other visa documents.

Step 8 On receiving the documents the student has to submit the file according to the check list.
