Admissions Entry Requirements for Undergraduate Programmes (Non-EU Students) 2023:

Once you have chosen the Irish University and the study course for your undergraduate programme, your next step will be to click on the entry requirements section, which is generally country-specific. Most Irish Universities have their entry requirements specific to each country. For a full undergraduate progarmme, you will need to ensure your non-EU status and your EU status first. The admissions requirements and the fee structure differ for EU and non-EU students alike. The non-EU students will be charged the full fee while the EU students will be offered a free of cost fee structure or a subsidized fee structure.

General Entry Requirements for Undergraduate Programmes (Non-EU Students) in Irish Universities 2023:

The entry requirements vary from university to university. To find out the exact requirements for your chosen University, you will need to contact the International Affairs Office at your chosen University. Some Irish Universities will also send you a list of the required documents via email. The general requirements for non-EU students applying to undergraduate programmes at Irish Universities are listed below.

Method of Application: 

Non-EU students must apply directly to the International Affairs Office of their preferred Irish University. Non-EU students can apply directly to their preferred Irish University through the online application process.

Degree Requirements: 

Higher Secondary Certificate in Science/Pre-Engineering and Pre-Medical Intermediate / Higher Secondary Certificate in Subjects) in Humanities and Commerce.

Documents Requirement:

Two academic references, Final high school exam results (according to the programme you selected), or Predicted Scores provided by your school.

Language Proficiency Test: 

English is the medium of instruction for most undergraduate programmes. Students from countries like Pakistan, where English is not their native language, are required to demonstrate a high level of proficiency in the English language. The Irish Universities will require students from non-EU countries to have a pass IELTS with a minimum of 6.5 grades. Students must have a minimum of 600 points on the paper-based TOEFL PBT, and a minimum of 475+ points on the Test of Written English. Students must have 250 points on the computer-based version of TOEFL, and 90 points on the Internet-based version of the TOEFL (IBT).

Admissions Deadline: 

Each Irish University has a different admissions deadline. To know the exact date, you must check the official website of your chosen Irish University. However, in most cases, undergraduate students must apply to Irish Universities before 1st July.

Application Fee:

Admissions Requirements for Post Graduate Programmes (Non-EU Students):

Post graduate admissions requirements at Irish universities are competitive and demand high grades. Entry requirements vary from university to university and will only be known through your chosen university’s International Affairs Office. There are many popular post graduate programmes available at Irish universities. Once you have chosen the study program you wish to pursue at an Irish university, you will need to specify your EU status and your Non-EU status as the entry requirements differ for both. You will have to use an online application system for admissions in Irish University. This system is usually organised by country. Each Irish University has a dedicated application button for Non-EU students. Your application will be processed in 3-4 weeks after you submit your application online. Here are general admission requirements at Irish universities step by step.

Application Requirements for Masters:

Method of Application:

In order to apply for post graduate programmes at Irish University, the non-EU students must use the online application system. The international affairs offices of Irish universities handle the application process for non-EU students.

Degree Requirements:

Second class honours in a subject you are interested in (at least 2.1 honors from an Irish university, or equivalent result from another country). Degree requirements vary depending on the programme you have chosen for your master’s course.

Documents Requirement:

Certified 3rd level qualification results. Academic transcript for each year of 3rd level study. All 3rd level qualifications awarded. 2 letters of recommendation. Third level degree (University degree).

Language Proficiency Test:

In order to be eligible for admission in post graduates, applicants must demonstrate proficiency in the English Language. This is due to the fact that most of the post graduate programmes are conducted using English as the medium of instruction. To be eligible for admission, applicants must demonstrate a high level of English Language proficiency, whether or not English is their native language. Additionally, IELTS grades of 6.5 or higher are required, as well as TOEFL scores of 600 or higher.

Admissions Deadline:

The application submission date for postgraduate programmes varies from one Irish University to another. Once you have completed your Bachelors degree, you will start looking for Irish universities to see their admission calendars. For most postgraduate courses, you will need to apply by the end of June or July. Postgraduate courses usually begin in September or October. You will need to apply at least 6 months in advance. For example, for a course starting in September/ October, you would need to apply around March.

Application Fee:

Application is charged for all post graduate programmes which are payable through credit card and is not refundable. The application fee must be around €50 to €75. The specific amount will be notified to you by International Affairs Office upon submitting the application at Irish University. 

Additional Documents Required for Post Graduate Programmes in Irish Universities (Master’s):

• Third level qualification results (A University degree (i.e. Bachelor’s degree) is a Third level degree)

• Certificates of either IELTS, Cambridge Advanced/Proficiency or TOEFL scores, for applicants whose first language is not English

• Certified Academic transcripts for each year of third level study and all third level qualifications awarded. (Photocopy or Originals will be specified to the Irish University International Affairs Office)

• 2 letters of recommendation

• National Passport valid at least till duration of your study programme in Ireland

• The Application fee (non-refundable) and application fee payment form

Admissions Requirements for Post Graduate Programmes (Non-EU Students) (PhD Degrees):

Admissions to PhD courses are highly competitive and entry requirements are very high at all Irish universities. Your previous degree may be declined if it does not meet the entry requirements in a particular subject area. All research students undertaking a degree in Ireland will have a single main supervisor. The university will request your research proposal and find you a suitable supervisor before you submit your application. First you will have to choose the University in Ireland in which you wish to undertake your research programme. The entry requirements will be set out to you by the International Affairs Office of the University. The entry requirements vary at Irish Universities. Research students will be placed directly on either the Ph.D register or on the masters register. If the progress of the research students is satisfactory, they can be transferred to the PhD registers which usually happens during the second year full-time study.

Application Requirements for PhD Courses in Irish Universities for Students 2023:

Method of Application:

Some Irish Universities will ask you to apply through the PAC (Postgraduate Applications Centre) system, which will be made available on the university’s official website. The online application process for PhD programmes in Irish universities is through the Online Application System, which is managed by the International Affairs Office.

Degree Requirements:

Almost all Irish Universities require a minimum of a 2:1 honors degree (other equivalent qualifications may be considered), although many courses also require a master’s degree. You will also have to submit a detailed research proposal elaborating the scope of your study.

Documents Requirement:

For PhD students, you usually need to create a research proposal, you might also need to pass an entrance test for some types of course, and for example the GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) for the MBA which will be specified to by University.

Language Proficiency Test:

IELTS with minimum grades of 6.5, TOEFL: 88 – iBT, 230 – Computer based, 570 – paper based, Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English: Grade C and Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English: Grade C.

Admissions Deadlines:

Admissions deadline for PhD courses may differ from University to University in Ireland. You must contact your selected Irish University’s International Affairs for details. However there are two entry times on in March and one in September. It is preferable o start admissions process 6 month prior to entry months. 

Application Fee:

For the students using the PAC system for admissions the application fee is €50 and  for those applying at the universities directly and not using the PAC system this is typically between €30 and €50 (Not Refundable)

Additional Documents Required for Post Graduate Programmes in Irish Universities (PhD):

• A minimum of a 2:1 honors degree serves as the minimum qualification for admission to a PhD program in an Irish university. In alternate, the applicants for PhD can produce any such evidence that will convince the head of the department or faculty of their eligibility for obtaining admission. Most ideally, a master’s degree is considered appropriate t for applying to a PhD program.

• Considering the study background of applicant and the subject chosen for research, the applicants are bound to submit a review of minimum 10,000 words to justify their eligibility for seeking admission in their desired subject of research, within time duration of 12 to 18 months of registration. The applicants then have to undergo an oral presentation as well.

• A recently up-to-date resume demonstrating the details of previous work experiences, achievements, and future goals

• A letter of motivation demonstrating the interests in the specific subject of research

• Original certified copies of academic transcripts

• Certificates evidencing of proficiency in English, either through TOEFL or IELTS score
